I’ve always been a dreamer—even when life didn’t turn out like I thought it would. But somewhere along the way, after enough disappointments and detours, I quietly stopped believing it was safe to dream again.
Since I was a little girl, I would set goals, write out dreams, and go after what was in my heart. Whether it was making the cheerleading squad, getting the job, starting the business, or building the house—I’d dream it, work for it, and before I even had time to celebrate, I was on to the next one.
It wasn’t just what I did—it was who I was.
Dreaming was woven into my making. Honestly, I think it was one of the ways I stayed connected to hope in hard seasons. But over time, something shifted.
That dreamer inside of me started to fade.
When the Dreamer Goes Quiet
The other day, Daron and I were riding in the car, and somehow my age came up.
“I’m 43,” I said out loud.
I don’t know why it hit me the way it did, but it did. I teared up—not out of regret—but out of this ache I hadn’t fully put words to yet.
Because the truth is…
That dreamer in me? The one who used to believe big, chase ideas, and leap with faith?
She’s been quiet lately.
Not gone.
Just… quiet.
And if I’m being honest, it’s because dreaming started to hurt.
How to Dream Again with God After Disappointment
There were ideas I believed for. Prayers I fought for. Dreams I chased in faith. But instead of the breakthrough, some of them just… broke. They didn’t turn out like I thought. In fact, a few left me heartbroken, disappointed, and wondering if I even knew how to hear God anymore.
Have you ever been there—believing for something so deeply, whether it was a baby, a breakthrough, a business, a book, a marriage, or a ministry—only to watch it not unfold the way you had hoped? Maybe you gave it everything you had, and still, the door didn’t open. And somewhere along the way, you stopped trying. Maybe you stopped dreaming altogether. Or maybe you’re still carrying that quiet ache, afraid to hope again because the disappointment cut deeper than you expected.
An Invitation to Dream Again
If you’re navigating faith after disappointment, or healing from broken dreams, I want to whisper something I felt the Holy Spirit whisper to my heart this morning:
“I want you to dream big again… but this time, with Me.”
Not by striving, not from fear, and not to prove anything—God is inviting you to dream again simply because you are deeply loved by a Father who delights in dreaming with His daughters. He cares about every detail of your life, and He sees the desires tucked quietly in your heart—the ones you’ve almost forgotten. He hasn’t missed a single one. And while the dream may not unfold exactly the way you imagined, I promise you this: when it’s birthed with Him, it will be richer, deeper, and more beautiful than anything you could have created on your own.
If this resonates with you, I recently shared more on this in my Move Pray Love Podcast, in an episode all about overcoming disappointment and finding God’s goodness again. It’s an honest, hope-filled conversation I think you’ll love.
So today, I want to invite you:
Let your heart open again.
Dust off the journal.
Ask Him what’s still waiting to be resurrected.
You haven’t missed it. You’re not too late. He’s not finished with you.
Let’s dream again—this time, with God as our guide.
Scripture for the Journey to Dream Again
“Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life, and he will provide for you what you desire the most.”Psalm 37:4 (TPT)
A Prayer to Pray to Dream Again:
Father, I bring you the dreams I’ve buried. The ones that hurt. The ones that felt forgotten. And the ones I’m afraid to hope for again. Heal the disappointment that’s hardened my heart. Speak life to the parts of me that stopped believing. I trust You with the timing, the outcome, and the journey. Help me dream again—not just for something big but for something holy. Let it begin with You.
Amen.
