How to Cut a Bell Pepper

To begin in the kitchen learning new skills, you need to know how to safely handle knives.  Once you have managed that, then you can focus on learning how to cut different vegetables.  Since bell peppers are a popular and favorite option, this tutorial is a must for those new in the kitchen.

To begin, you will need to wash your pepper and ready the cutting board and knife.  If you are cutting a bell pepper, you will begin by removing the stem.  Some like to cut the whole top off the bell pepper, while others will just cut around the stem and remove it first.  Next, you will remove the seeds from the inside of the pepper.

Once the seeds are removed from the bell pepper, you will then begin slicing the bell pepper in the style you wish to use for the recipe.

  • Slice across horizontally to create pepper rings
  • For other dishes, you will slice in half lengthwise and slice into julienne strips or wider strips to use for fajitas
  • For diced or chopped bell peppers, you will then chop those slices into 1/4″-1/2″ pieces
