How to Cut a Bell Pepper

To begin, you will need to wash your pepper and ready the cutting board and knife. If you are cutting a bell pepper, you will begin by removing the stem. Some like to cut the whole top off the bell pepper, while others will just cut around the stem and remove it first. Next, you will remove the seeds from the inside of the pepper.
Once the seeds are removed from the bell pepper, you will then begin slicing the bell pepper in the style you wish to use for the recipe.
- Slice across horizontally to create pepper rings
- For other dishes, you will slice in half lengthwise and slice into julienne strips or wider strips to use for fajitas
- For diced or chopped bell peppers, you will then chop those slices into 1/4″-1/2″ pieces
How do you mince bell peppers?
The best method of mincing bell peppers is to cut each strip of bell pepper into a julienne then cut each julienne piece horizontally into the mince size you prefer.
How do you cut mini sweet peppers?
The same way you would cut larger bell pepper, you can cut mini sweet pepper. They are smaller, but the overall anatomy of pepper is the same. Simply be careful since they are smaller, there is less room to hold the pepper and higher chance of cutting yourself with the knife.
Is capsicum and bell pepper the same?
In many cases, the term bell pepper and capsicum are referencing the same item. However, in some countries, capsicum is used to reference any pepper or pepper with more heat level than a typical bell pepper. It is best to make sure the type of capsicum being referenced in a recipe that is not US-based.
How to store bell peppers
Whether you are storing bell peppers in the refrigerator or the freezer, you want to make sure they are in an airtight container. Bell peppers are good for up to one week stored in the refrigerator.
When freezing bell peppers, you will want to dry them well before adding them to the freezer. If they are wet, that will create more changce of freezer burn. They are good in the freezer for up to four months.
