Adding a spicy kick to your seafood is simple with a good spice mix, like Caribbean jerk seasoning. I like to add spice to plump, juicy shrimp with my Quick Jamaican Jerk Shrimp! This shrimp dish is so fast, it is on the table in less than 15 minutes, including the side of healthy brown rice! First, liberally season your shrimp with jerk seasoning, salt and pepper. Then, fry the shrimp in a little olive oil and garlic. Finally, remove the shrimp from the pan and top with lime juice and cilantro. Shrimp is such a great healthy protein because it has very low calories and fat while being high in protein content. It also contains Omega-3 fatty acids, of which seafood is a great source. Calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D are also found in shrimp! In terms of the spicy jerk seasoning, studies show that eating spicy foods can help boost metabolism, which allows us to burn more calories while at rest. There aren’t reasons to NOT make this healthy dinner!

Ingredients in Quick Jamaican Jerk Shrimp

  • Ready Rice Whole Grain Brown Rice
  • medium shrimp
  • jerk seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon
  • black pepper
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • garlic
  • lime juice
  • cilantro

How to Make Quick Jamaican Jerk Shrimp

Microwave rice according the package directions and set aside.

Place the shrimp, jerk seasoning, salt, and pepper in a gallon-size resealable bag and shake to evenly coat.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the oil.

Add the garlic and cook for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Add the shrimp, and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side, or until they become pink and opaque.

Remove the skillet from the heat and squeeze the fresh lime over the shrimp, and sprinkle the cilantro over them. Toss gently to combine, and serve 7-8 shrimp over ½ cup of rice.

This plump and juicy shrimp dish gets a spicy kick from Jamaican jerk seasoning and is served with a healthy side of brown rice.

Ingredients
 

  • 1 8.8-ounce pouch Ready Rice Whole Grain Brown Rice
  • 1 tbsp jerk seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • juice from 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
