Defined as “uncertainty or anxiety about oneself,” or “lack of confidence,” it affects many women through social media, constant comparison, competition with others, and even relationships.

My Personal Struggle with Insecurity

I’ve struggled with insecurity since I was a young girl. As I grew up, I learned from an early age to put all of my confidence in my achievements, awards, and successes. This left me constantly in search of others’ approval, leaving me with deep doubts and wrong thoughts about who I was.

In a recent difficult season of my life, I felt God asking me to take some time away from my career, social media, and goals in order to seek Him more. As I listened to His voice, I realized that I had been drawing all of my worth and confidence from what I could do, earn, and achieve. Once I put aside these things and sought God through His Word, I learned the importance of finding my identity and security in Him and the love He has for me as His daughter.

So much freedom has come to me as I have discovered my identity as his daughter! I no longer struggle with insecurities regarding human approval or confidence. Instead, I find my security in my relationship with Jesus and memorizing scriptures has helped me overcome my insecurities.

Here are 10 powerful scriptures to help you overcome insecurity:

Proverbs 29:25

“Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety” (NLT).

Scriptures to Overcome Insecurity - Proverbs

This verse reminds me that my safety and security are only found in God’s will and His plan for my life – not in the desires and ideas of the people around me.

2 Corinthians 3:4-5

“We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God” (NLT).

Scriptures to Overcome Insecurity

Our gifts and talents are from God, and they are for Him, too. His plan for our lives should come before anyone else’s opinion!

Psalm 23

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need… You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings” (vs. 1, 5, NLT).

Isn’t it amazing that God chooses to protect and bless us so lavishly? Even in the face of opposition, we can rest in the knowledge that He is with us. Like this incredible reminder, I love this Promises of God book. Not only does it help me remember all He has for us, but it gets conversations going with others when they see it on my table. So, I can help remind them, too!

Jeremiah 17:7-8

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water…they never stop producing fruit” (NLT).

Scriptures to overcome insecurity

This passage reminds us that God’s commands, not the opinions of others, must be our foundation.

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession.  As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light” (NLT).

God chose us to belong to Him! What greater purpose and privilege could we possibly know?

Acts 20:32

“And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself” (NLT).

Acts 20:32

The world wants to tear you down, but God wants to build you up. He has set aside a special inheritance for you!

Romans 8:30-31

“And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. Having given them right standing, he gave them his glory. What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (NLT)

This passage is such a beautiful expression of God’s great love for us. With Him on our side, how could we ever fear?

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT).

Scriptures to Overcome Insecurity

If you belong to God, you don’t need to fear what others think of you! Instead, you can step forward boldly into His purpose for you. This is one of my favorite scriptures and I hope it encourages and helps you overcome insecurity if this is a feeling you struggle with personally.

Isaiah 41:10

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand” (NLT).

What more could we need than this reassurance of God’s presence? I love to write this scripture in my journal when I’m feeling afraid or overwhelmed.

Hebrews 13:6

“So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?’” (NLT)

Hebrews 13:6

This sums up what I’ve learned about insecurity: God’s opinion is the only one that matters for eternity. I hope these 10 scriptures comfort and guide you, and help you to overcome insecurity for good. Let’s step forward boldly into our identity as God’s beloved daughters!

XOXO,
