Today, I’m sharing 9 foods that I eat to get glowing skin and help improve my complexion. I’m always on a quest to achieve a glow, especially as I’m getting a little older and have more mature skin. While there are plenty of cosmetics that claim to give you the perfect complexion (and believe me, I’ve tried many of them!), I’ve realized that what I put in my body also matters. Some foods are better than others when it comes to achieving a healthy glow.
Whether you need to ward off premature aging, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, treat acne, or get rid of another irritating skin condition, the right diet can be just what your skin needs to see improvements! Researchers have found that certain healthy foods can help increase hydration, heal and repair damaged tissues, and improve overall complexion.
9 of the Best Foods to Get Glowing Skin
Build a beauty routine from the inside out by adding the following foods to your weekly grocery list! These 9 healthy foods will provide your skin with needed nutrients and give you a healthy glow, making your skin look younger and more vibrant.
Oranges
Oranges are packed with vitamin C, which keeps your skin supple and firm for a youthful look. They’re also full of antioxidants, which stop premature wrinkles in their tracks, and citric acid, which fights acne!
Apples
Apples are full of vitamins B and C, which fight skin irritation and speed up skin cell growth. This simple fruit is also known for its high antioxidant content — so an apple a day will keep the wrinkles away!
Cucumbers
With extraordinary high water content, cucumbers are essential for hydrating your skin. They’re also full of nutrients like folic acid and vitamin C, which will give your skin a full, youthful glow. Try my cucumber detox water to include more cucumbers in your diet!
Carrots
You probably have heard that carrots are good for the eyes, but you might not realize that they are also great for clearing up breakouts! Carrots are packed with beta-carotene and vitamin A, which prevent overproduction of cells in the skin’s outer layer to keep your pores clear. Carrots are essential, so if you’re not sure how to incorporate them into your diet, try this Easy Carrot Recipe!
Foods to Get Glowing Skin: Salmon
Salmon contains dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE). This compound is great for your skin, since it protects the integrity of cell membranes and strengthens them to stop your skin from premature aging. Try adding salmon to your weekly meal calendar — here’s a great Poached Lemon Dill Salmon recipe to try!

Eggs
Here’s one reason you should eat the whole egg: egg yolk is rich in vitamins essential for proper cell function, as well as the “beauty vitamin,” biotin. This B vitamin is known to help hair grow and strengthen fingernails. Research has shown it also helps protect skin from acne, rashes, and even dryness.
Sweet Potatoes
The disease-fighting compounds called carotenoids in orange and red vegetables will give you a healthier and more radiant glow than you would get from sun exposure! Sweet potatoes are rich in these carotenoids, and eating just one potato per day can provide your body with 200 percent of your daily recommended intake. Here’s a great recipe for Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes that you can make this week.
Avocado
Instead of investing in a slew of questionable anti-aging products, head to the store and grab an avocado. This fruit is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, which hydrate and shield the skin from dangerous ultraviolet radiation. The potent fats in avocados also help you absorb many of the fat-soluble vitamins that will protect your skin from sun damage. Hooray for healthy fats!
Blueberries
Blueberries are one of nature’s superfoods. Brimming with antioxidants, blueberries help your body quash cell-damaging, skin-aging free radicals. These berries also help boost the strength of collagen fibers in your skin, thanks to their high concentration of anthocyanins (phytonutrients that give these berries their bright blue hue).
