How to Make Spaghetti and Meatballs

To make the Meatballs:

Start by preheating the oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with foil and generously coat the foil with cooking spray.

Add olive oil over medium heat in a medium-size skillet. Once heated, add the onion and minced garlic, cook until the onions are translucent and the garlic has softened, about 1-2 minutes.  Then remove from the skillet and set aside to cool.

Next, in a large bowl, using clean hands, combine the ground beef, sausage, cooked onions and garlic, parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Once that is done, combine all ingredients and form into 12 meatballs.

*TIP: Use about 1/4 cup of the mixture for each meatball. Place the meatballs 1 inch apart on the baking sheet.

To Finish, bake the meatballs until browned and cooked through about 25-30 minutes.

To make the Marinara Sauce:

Next, add the pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, sweetener, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to a large saute pan or skillet. Stir to combine evenly, and cover.  Reduce the heat to low, and simmer for an additional 20 minutes.

While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Cook the pasta to al dente according to the package directions. Then drain the pasta.

Serve the spaghetti with the sauce and meatballs. Sprinkle each serving with one tablespoon of parmesan cheese.

To serve family style, transfer the pasta to a large serving dish, and cover with sauce and meatballs.  Add parsley and Parmesan cheese before serving.
